The month of March is filled with lots of great things. Women’s history and Springtime are the two things I will focus on.
Women’s History Month started in March 1987 after congress passed additional resolutions requesting and authorizing the President’s approval. Originally Women’s history was just a week beginning of March 7,1982 (www.womenshistory.gov).
This law was a start of women getting equal opportunities and to explore life outside their day-to-day obligations to their families. Also, it allowed the contributions of women in society to be recognized. Women have such a unique significance in the family and the circle of life. Women are the piece of the puzzle of life that can’t be replaced.
Here are a few women I’ve highlighted below.
Valerie Thomas -Inventor – She helped develop computer program designs that supported research on the Haley’s Comet, The Ozone layer and Satellite technology.
Elizabeth-Blackwell, MD– First female physician in the USA. She was born in England and moved to Cincinnati, OH in 1932.
Rigoberta Menchu- is a Nobel Prize winner from Guatemala, spokesperson for the rights of indigenous people.
Kathern Johnson-was an American mathematician whose calculations of orbital mechanics as a NASA employee were critical to the success of the first and subsequent U.S. crewed spaceflights.
Chien-Shiung WU-Nuclear Physicist – Was the first woman ever elected as president to the American Physical society.
Harriet Tubman– An American abolitionist who was a slaved who got freed. She moved other slaves to liberation in the underground railroad and was never caught.
Maria Montessori – Italian physician and educator best know for her philosophy of education that bears her name “Montessori”.
Springtime is another great thing that occurs in March, because it the season when creation is blossoming, and new things are coming forth. Springtime allows people to feel more energy, encourages more physical activities and the desire to explore the outdoors. Time changes so daylight last longer which gives more time to make memories with family and friends. Listed below are some resources to help you and your family enjoy this upcoming spring.
