A Message From
“Welcome to the First Steps Early Head Start Website! We are excited you are interested in services either for yourself as a pregnant mother and/or for your infant and/or your toddler. Although we have a limited number of enrollment opportunities, we encourage all of you to apply. Appointments are preferred, but we do allow walk-ins. Just be sure to call ahead of time and ask, “What is needed to determine eligibility?”
Once the enrollment application has been completed and it has been determined your family member is eligible to participate in the program, the applicant will be placed on the waitlist. You will be contacted by phone and/or by email when we have an enrollment opportunity available for you or your family member. So please keep your information up-to-date by simply calling when there is a change in your methods of contact.
Again, thank you for visiting our site, and we look forward to hearing from you soon!”

What We Do
We empower parents and caregivers by teaching the impact of positive relationships/attachments and parental involvement in a baby’s or toddler’s early development and learning.
We mobilize communities to provide the resources and support services families need to be healthy and productive, resulting in a more healthy and productive society.
We celebrate the uniqueness of each child by practicing inclusion to ensure that all eligible children, including those with disabilities, can benefit from our programs both in the home and childcare center environments.
We emphasize the importance of high quality in EHS programs, reflecting our understanding of the impact high quality learning environments can have on a child’s early years and later life.
We collaborate to build strong community partnerships that ensure a network exists to provide comprehensive assistance to young children and their families when needed.
At Spartanburg County First Steps Early Head Start, we help to create a positive future for our community by helping parents provide their infants and toddlers with an early head start in life!
What Parents are Saying
“My experience at First Steps was amazing. Being a teen mom I was terrified of what my future would bring. After getting with the program my life was so much easier. Because of them I was able to go off to college and get my bachelor’s degree in nursing. The staff was always helpful with setting goals and accomplishing them. I would recommend the program to anyone. “
